Saper Galleries is proud to carry the beautiful, colorful and serene landscapes of Okemos, Michigan's Barbara McCleary.  Many of the paintings illustrated here are presently on display at Saper Galleries and are available for immediate shipment anywhere in the world. Barbara will also consider painting special commissions to capture a garden, river, or other nature scene that may have special fondness to you. Detroit-born McCleary studied at The Center for Creative Studies and later received degrees from Michigan State University. She worked as a scientific illustrator at Michigan State University's Instructional Media Center and became manager of the IMC art studio. McCleary has won numerous awards and competitions for her art. She was elected as a member of the prestigious Alla Prima International group of established woman artists from across the country. Her work has been accepted into many national competitions including Houston's National Society of Artists, the New Orleans Art Association, the Hilton Head Art League, and the outstanding Oil Painters of America national shows. McCleary has also been selected for two one-woman shows at the University of Michigan's "Gifts of Art". Her painting trips have recently taken her to the California coast, New Mexico, and the Colorado Rockies. During the spring of 2002 she painted in Provence, France, bringing back vibrant painting of fields of poppies, French urban scenes, and landscapes painted en plein air.  In 2003 she brought back canvases she painted in Oaxaca, Mexico and New Mexico.  Her most recent paintings are based on travels to Hawaii, the Loire valley in France and the Monterey coast of California. The imagery of many of McCleary's paintings relate to Michigan landscapes including flower gardens, forests, and special family yards. She also has a wonderful ability of capturing lakes, rivers, and streams -- and the sunlight and shadows that fall upon them. Her stunning still lifes are captivating and brilliant. Recent commissions of Barbara McCleary paintings have been placed in the Country Club of Lansing (Michigan), Michigan Retailers Association, Small Business Association of Michigan, and the State Employees Credit Union, among others. McCleary commissions also appear in many homes, cottages, and offices throughout the United States -- from California to New York.
